Around Addis

COOPI

Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI) has its head office in Milan and a second office in Brussels. There are also branch offices around the world. COOPI promotes and carries out development and emergency programs, and is active in Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Balkans. It also organises activities in Italy to foster knowledge of other cultures.

Thirty-five years of experience has helped COOPI fine-tune its development and relief expertise. Its field staff work in close partnership with beneficiary communities, while implementing projects and evaluating their effectiveness. COOPI's personnel are either local workers or expatriates who have spent years in a specific region.

Activities and Areas of Intervention in Ethiopia
COOPI started operation in Ethiopia in 1995. In 1998, COOPI was also registered with the Ethiopian Ministry of Justice and this registration was renewed for all the consecutive years up to 2006. COOPI's Country Office in Addis Ababa is the co-ordination office for all existing and upcoming Projects.

COOPI is implementing various projects in different administrative regions of the country including Oromia, Somali, Amhara and Afar National Regional States. Over the years COOPI has implemented various projects, ranging from relief, recovery, and rehabilitation and development. The main focus of its interventions is Integrated Rural Development, including Water Resource Development, Agricultural Development, Animal Health, Human Health, Capacity Building and Income Generation activities.

The main strategy of COOPI Ethiopia is to operate in synergy with the donor's community, the International Organisations and the local government in order to assure adequate intervention. Community participation and cost sharing mechanisms are followed so as to ensure sustainability of the actions. COOPI has been working with local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Ethiopia, and more specifically, has a long experience in the Somali region with Pastoralist Concern Associations Ethiopia (PCAE). Currently COOPI is taking steps to collaborate with more local NGOs and to focus its effort on working at the grassroots level, involving local communities, local associations, cooperatives, self-help groups and other community organizations.

DKT Elects New Models!

After announcing a nation-wide call to female and male young people to compete in a modeling contest, DKT has chosen Lula Gezu and Biniam Wondwosen as the new DKT models from about a thousand applicants. A rigorous selection of candidates was carried out and finalists made appearances for a final round selection at the Hilton Hotel on June 15. Finalists were asked to answer questions and to perform in order to distinguish the attractive and confident among them. A panel of judges from diverse professions including Chachi Tadesse, Abraham Wolde, Photographer Abate Damte and Rahel Berahne of What’s Out! Addis picked the two winners after thoroughly examining the finalists

DKT Ethiopia is a social marketing organization under the umbrella of the parent company, DKT International. It markets health products such as condoms, contraceptive pills, children’s rehydration solutions and sanitary napkins in the popular Sensation, Choice, My Rose and Lemelem brands.

DKT employs large-scale marketing campaigns to advertise its products throughout the country. Hayat Ahmed, the 2003 Miss Ethiopia, was the model for DKT products in its broadcast and print media advertisements. Lula Gezu, the winner for the Miss Ethiopia 2009 crown and Biniam Wondwosen have now come onboard a new DKT advertising deal.

Why Men Cheat: some of the usual excuses

Why men cheat on women is an age-old question. The reasons why men cheat on women can be varied. Nevertheless, here are some of the common reasons why both married and unmarried men cheat. Sometimes their reasons don't even involve you and it's simply an ego-based decision. Other times, reasons why men cheat can involve you and your relationship, or lack thereof.

So why do some men cheat in relationships? Almost all men know that cheating is wrong, yet many they still do it. Men will blame their reasons for cheating on their genes and their necessity to reproduce. However, aren’t we endowed with reason, choice and conscience above animals, who just follow their instincts? Shouldn't we be able to control our bodies through our minds and conscious decisions? Apparently not always.

It boosts their ego. Sometimes men don't feel like they are attractive to the opposite sex any more and when a woman shows some interest, not only does a man react, he may allow her to stroke his ego and more. There's nothing like the thrill of the chase to men on the hunt. When they are finally rewarded for their efforts, their egos swell even larger.

You’ve grown apart. Maybe the two of you didn't have as much in common as you thought. He's met a woman who has more in common with him who loves football or plays golf. He may check out if he is compatible with her under the sheets also.

You argue all the time. Men will sometimes cheat to get away from an overly critical or argumentative partner. Who wants to be around someone who is constantly on them about something?

The love has run cold. Sometimes men become so comfortable in a relationship, they don't know how to get out. They may be staying in the relationship because of children or financial reasons. However, they feel like they are missing out on love and may seek it out elsewhere.

Lack –lustre sex life. If a man has a disinterested partner or isn't getting enough sex to fulfill him, there is a good chance he will have an affair. Just because you have a husband or boyfriend, does not mean you can stop trying. It takes a little bit of effort to keep your sex life from getting boring and non-existent.

To get revenge. A man will sometimes cheat if he finds out his partner was cheating on him. How else is he supposed to heal those hurt feelings of his but through good old fashioned sex?

It's new, different and exciting. Some men get tired of having steak for dinner every night and want to try a hamburger. The same goes for sex with a woman. That's why men don't necessarily always cheat with women who are more attractive than their partners.

To see if they can get away with it. If a man has the attitude of 'what she doesn't know, won't hurt her,' he may cheat to see can get away with it. However, with all the advancement in surveillance spyware, getting caught has now become easier than ever.

Because you have allowed it in the past. If you have forgiven a cheating man a couple of times, they are more than likely going to cheat again because they already know if they plead enough, you will probably forgive them.

Reasons why men cheat can be more complex than the above list, or even be a combination of a few different reasons. Nevertheless, no reason is good enough reason to lie and damage your relationship. When a partner breaks the trust that a good relationship is based on, it is very difficult to reestablish confidence and trust. The pain caused by betrayal runs very deep, and before you take steps that may destroy something really good and special, try being honest and talking about problems that may be causing thoughts about being unfaithful to the one you love.
