Nathaniel Getenew Zeleke has gained international recognition after winning first place in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) AIdeas competition, competing against more than 10,000 participants worldwide.
His award-winning project, “Ivy,” is an offline AI-powered educational system designed for mobile phones. Unlike most digital learning platforms, Ivy works without internet access, making it especially useful for students in low-connectivity and underserved areas.
Created as an AI tutor, the system provides educational support, learning guidance, and resources directly through mobile devices. The innovation has been praised for helping bridge the digital divide and improving access to education across Africa.
Nathaniel’s achievement not only highlights the power of locally driven innovation but also shines a spotlight on Ethiopia’s growing presence in the global technology sector.
