Pulse Of Africa: A Bold Step Toward Reclaiming Africa’s Story

Africa has taken a historic stride in reshaping its global narrative with the launch of Pulse of Africa (POA), a new transcontinental media platform dedicated to telling the continent’s story through African eyes. Officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, POA aims to protect Africa’s interests, promote unity, and challenge long-standing stereotypes perpetuated by global media.

Prime Minister Abiy described the initiative as a fulfilment of his Pan-African vision, first proposed during the 35th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly. “The negative portrayals of Africa—of war, hunger, and poverty—are not only misleading but dehumanizing,” he said. “Pulse of Africa will project the true spirit, resilience, and potential of our continent.”

Trainee diplomats at the African Union welcomed the platform with great enthusiasm, describing it as a turning point for Africa’s media landscape. Natan Getachew, one of the young diplomats, called it “a timely and powerful initiative to reimagine Africa’s discourse,” highlighting Ethiopia’s leadership in Pan-Africanism.

Another young voice, Hasset Abera, emphasized the platform’s role in empowering African youth: “For too long, we haven’t been represented as we truly are. Pulse of Africa gives us a chance to tell our own stories.”

Based in Addis Ababa—the political heart of Africa—POA seeks to unify African perspectives, amplify authentic voices, and foster a shared sense of pride across the continent. As Prime Minister Abiy noted, “Today marks a humble beginning for what will grow into a leading continental media platform.”

With its bold mission and continental scope, Pulse of Africa stands as a powerful reminder that Africa’s heartbeat, strength, and story belong first and foremost to Africans themselves.
