There are countless numbers of wonderful coffee shops around the world with beautifully curated menus and interiors. Such places have been special to us on our coffee journey, as we learned from them, and applied the knowledge gained.
When we started Galani in 2014, the original idea was for people to just walk in, have a good cup of coffee, learn something about what makes it special and walk out.
We were not prepared for the demands of retail and roasting, so the journey was an uphill experience. Galani Coffee and our coffee carrier (our little donkey), took shape finally around the idea that, as Ethiopia produces among the best coffees in the world, it should be able to showcase them to the resident public too. Our food is simple but full of flavors evoking Ethiopia and the Levant. Quality and freshness are not negotiable and everything must combine well with a coffee.
The ”100 Best Coffee Shops Award” was initiated in Spain, with independent judges evaluating different coffee shops across the world. In 2026, they received 15,000 candidates, with Galani among them.
To be selected among the 100 best coffee shops in the world, twice in a row, and being placed among the coffee shops we so admired, was an incredible surprise and honor. An ode to Ethiopia and its beautiful coffees as well as an ode to our efforts.
