Rachel Berhane Araya

Managing Director
Rahel’s role as a founding member of What’s Up, the precursor to What’s Out Addis, has been invaluable. She is a dedicated team member who plays a pivotal role in setting editorial policies, conducting article research, and overseeing the department budget. Additionally, Rahel serves as the public face of the magazine, liaising with advertisers and event organizers. Her commitment and diverse skill set greatly contribute to the success of What’s Out Addis.

Art Director
Rahel is a highly skilled graphic designer and digital marketer. With her extensive training and expertise in marketing management, she brings a unique blend of creativity and strategic thinking to her work. Rahel’s natural talent for graphic design allows her to create visually stunning and compelling designs that captivate the target audience. Her deep understanding of consumer behavior and trends ensures that her designs align with the expectations of the readers.
Matiyas Tewodros

Graphic Designer
Matiyas is a graphic designer and visual storyteller focused on digital design, branding, and visual communication. His work blends creativity with thoughtful design to create visuals that are both engaging and purposeful. At What’s Out Addis, he contributes to the magazine’s visual identity through layouts, graphics, and editorial design that bring stories, events, and cultural highlights to life.
Arabella Stewart

Senior Contributor
Arabella is originally from the UK but grew up in Ethiopia as a child. She enjoyed a media career in the UK and USA (magazines, newspapers, and television) before returning to Ethiopia to devise and manage two social projects. Arabella has been writing and editing for What’s Out Addis since 2013 and particularly enjoys researching and writing about off-the-beaten-track places and unsung Ethiopian “heroes”.
Sarah Hayward

Creative Collaborator
Sarah has a diverse background wearing many hats over the years as a native English speaker and organizer, including being a founder member of What’s Up, the forerunner of What’s Out Addis. After a break of some years, she’s delighted to join today’s team to continue showcasing Addis Ababa as a pulsating, vibrant city full of energetic and interesting people creating exciting and inspiring events, activities, restaurants and galleries.
