Addis Ababa Youth Book Fair

The Alliance Ethio-Française of Addis Ababa and the French Embassy in Ethiopia are organizing a Book Fair as part of a project aimed at strengthening the use of the French language as a lever for access to employment in Ethiopia. This fair will be held from the 9th to the 17th of December 2022 within the Alliance premises located in the historic district of Piassa, as well as the new municipal media library “Abrehot” and will place a particular emphasis on books dedicated to children and teenagers. This unique event is part of the 125th anniversary of the Ethio-French relations and although the French language is at the center of the event, English and Amharic speaking partners will also be present in order to promote multilingualism. 
 
The book fair will be a multifaceted event that not only focuses on books but also other topics around children and litterature. It will include:
–       Stands that will be occupied by publishing houses (local and international), writers, illustrators, organizations and companies working in the literature sector, children’s games developpers) (10th and 11th of December)
–       Illustration Workshops for children and young adults (10th to 17th of December)
–       Circus Workshops (10th, 11th and 17th of December)
–       Kubuni: Exhibition on African Comic Books (10th of December to the 5th of January)
–       A Conference on African Comics (14th of December)
–       Slam Poetry Concert (11th of December)
–       Azmari Concert (17th of December)
–       Meetings and Debates with authors (10th and 11th of December)
–       African storytelling (10th, 11th and 17th of December)
–       Children’s games (10th, 11th and 17th of December)
–       And A book flea market that will be closing the event (17th of December)
 
In addition, the Alliance team is in charge of the creation of a “French Speaking Corner” in the Abrehot media library which was inaugurated in January of this year. This will be equipped with 5,000 books. The “French Speaking Corner” will be inaugurated on the 9th of December and will mark the beginnig of the 8 day Book Fair.
