This spring, the diplomatic landscape of Addis Ababa transforms as policy briefs are traded for camera lenses. We are thrilled to announce the second edition of the visual art project, ‘Africa Through the Eyes of Diplomats’, a prestigious collaboration spearheaded by a coalition of Ambassadors from Romania, Australia, Bangladesh, Burundi, Canada, Czechia, Mexico, Morocco, South Africa, and alongside the UNESCO Country Representative, in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Dashen Culture Club and Hyatt Regency Addis Ababa.
This year’s exhibition centers on the evocative theme: Africa Close to Your Heart. The initiative transcends traditional diplomacy, inviting missions to share the personal narratives and cultural richness encountered during their tenures.
While diplomats often engage with the continent through the lens of governance and economics, this project reveals a more intimate perspective. It offers a rare glimpse into the ‘human’ side of international relations.
Each photograph serves as a thread in a collective tapestry, weaving together stories of resilience, joy, majestic wildlife and breathtaking landscapes. By sharing what resonates deeply within them, the international community fosters a profound sense of mutual respect and understanding with their host continent building cultural bridges.
This visual dialogue is more than just an exhibition; it is a celebration of the vibrant, diverse stories that make Africa a home away from home for the global community.
