Ethiopian Aloe Vera Soap Initiative

Ethiopia, home to some of the world’s finest The Walkante Soap Project was started last year by Yared Tour. After witnessing the struggles and poverty of the region, the tour leader specifically wanted to support marginalized, illiterate women in South Omo.

Yared Tour was well aware that in order to reduce poverty it is vital to provide female headed households in these very remote areas with an opportunity to raise their children. The project empowers women and has also spear headed an important conversation regarding girls’ education within the communities; it has become clear that when women receive technical and basic training in business and finance that they are able to improve their household standard of living quickly and efficiently. Although women are the main producers and beneficiaries, men are also engaged in this project.

Not only does this project empower and engage these women but the soap is also made from abundantly grown Aloe Vera which thrives in the Ethiopian climate.

Aloe Vera has long been used as a traditional medicine in Ethiopia and is highly regarded for its many health benefits. Used in soap, the aloe vera is moisturizing and as the aloe vera gel contains mostly water, it absorbs quickly into the skin also providing hydration for dry and itchy skin.

At the moment, the soap costs 200 ETB per bar but bulk orders can have special arrangements. The soap is packed in natural materials made from banana leaves and is a 100 percent vegan product.  If you want to order this soap, please get in touch with Yared Tour as currently they are organizing sales and distribution in Addis Ababa.
