… And no, that’s not just a catchy phrase, it’s a real health warning.
We now spend more than 9 hours a day sitting, whether it’s at our desks, in traffic, or on the couch.
Sitting for more than 6 hours a day is linked to a 19% higher risk of death from all causes, compared to sitting less than 3 hours.
Long sitting hours are associated with a 147% increase in cardiovascular events.
Sedentary lifestyles contribute to 1 in 10 deaths globally, according to the WHO.
Even 30 minutes of daily exercise can’t fully undo the damage caused by sitting all day.
The brain isn’t spared either. Reduced movement means reduced blood flow and that affects focus, memory, and even mood.
So what can you do?
Stand up every 30–45 minutes
Take a walking meeting when possible
Use stairs instead of elevators
Walk after meals
Movement doesn’t need a gym. It just needs
a habit.
