The Adwa Zero Kilometer Project Nearing Completion

The Adwa Zero Kilometer Museum Project is underway in the historic Piassa across from the office of the mayor and next to the statue of Emperor Menelik II.

This project celebrates Ethiopia commemorating its victory at the Battle of Adwa against Mussolini’s Italy. The victory of Adwa is a source of pride for Ethiopians and the Adwa Zero Kilometres Project is where Ethiopians will be able to come to celebrate the victory of their forefathers.

The Adwa Project will consist of a museum, a meeting hall (for more than 2000 people,) three smaller auditoriums with capacity for 400 and parking for 600 cars, a cinema, library, gym, cafeterias and a childcare centre, among other leisure facilities.

As a memorial centre of the African Battle of Adwa Victory, the  Adwa Centre is expected to serve as a platform for a reinvigoration of the spirit of Pan-Africanism. Contained within the museum there will be historical artefacts, documents, photographs as well as multimedia presentations including immersive exhibits that will enable visitors to be transported back to the time of Emperor Menelik II and Empress Taitu, alongside the esteemed cabinet of the period.

With construction nearing its final stages, the Chinese Jiangsu firm, awarded the 4.6 billion birr bid, is poised to deliver the long-awaited Museum. It is expected to open in the early part of 2024.
