The Diplomatic Bazaar Is Back: Saturday December 10

The Diplomatic Spouses Group of Ethiopia (DSGE) is very pleased to confirm that this year’s annual Diplomatic Charity Bazaar will take place on Saturday 10th December, 2022 from 10am to 4pm on the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) compound in Addis Ababa. Tickets are 500 ETB and all those under 16 years of age enter for free. The event is done in partnership with the UNECA. We would like to minimize our footprint and will attempt to make this event as Green as possible.

The DSGE Charity Bazaar raises funds for its sub-group Project Matrix that supports the most vulnerable people in Ethiopia. Embassies and Diplomatic Organisations and Missions donate 100% of their profits from the Bazaar towards this support.

This year, we are pleased to announce that we will structure the Bazaar as a ‘journey around the world’ by setting up continental villages (i.e. Africa Village, Asia Village, Europe Village, etc). Countries will be grouped according to continent. This offers an opportunity to learn more about continents and individual countries in a fun and interactive way. Embassies and Diplomatic Missions will set up individual Goods and/or Food Stalls that represent their individual country’s culture and traditions.

We will also have stalls set-up for the recipients of Project Matrix grants from the last few years. Most of our project recipients have arts and crafts they produce for sale, while some will showcase what their organisation or social enterprise does.

A Green Village will also be included in this year’s event. A dozen or so creative entrepreneurs will showcase and sell their green products that are sourced and made in Ethiopia. We are very pleased to support these worthwhile businesses that work towards sustainable solutions to climate change.

There will be a large Kids Corner with a lot of fun things for children to engage with- from face painting to storytelling session in different languages. Entertainment will range from various traditional dances from Greece, Kazakhstan, Turkey and well as a taste of Ethiopian cultural dance. The highlight of our entertainment program will be a fashion show put on by African Mosaique, who will also have a small pop-up shop.

The DSGE warmly welcomes all of Addis to join us in celebrating the different diplomatic representatives here in Ethiopia and enjoying their cultural and traditional diversity.
