Introducing Teff-Ly!

The Original Teff-ly, the world’s first plant-based milk made from teff, was launched recently at the Ethiopian Embassy in London, bringing together  guests from the business community, the media, vegan sector, and social media influencers. The event introduced Ethiopia’s heritage grain to global audiences amid growing demand for plant-based and sustainable food alternatives.

H.E. Ambassador Biruk Mekonnen opened the event by welcoming attendees and highlighting Teff’s central role in Ethiopian culture and daily life, while underscoring its relevance to global discussions on nutrition, sustainability, and climate-resilient food systems. He framed the launch as a meeting point between ancient heritage and modern innovation.

The founders of The Original Teff-ly presented the company’s vision to establish a new category in the global plant-based milk market while ensuring teff’s value and identity remain linked to Ethiopia. While the product is currently manufactured in the United Kingdom to meet international standards, plans were outlined to shift production to Ethiopia, supporting farmers, job creation, and higher-value exports. According to the founder Mr. Yosef Berhane, this product is not only good for health, he has a big plan to support the farmers and create job opportunities by transferring the product to Ethiopia.

Yoseph Brhane, a proud son of Ethiopia, grew up savouring the unique taste of Teff, recognising its nutritional benefits. Meanwhile, Karmen Gadi, a dedicated nurse from the Philippines and advocate for plant-based living, sought innovative and sustainable nourishment. Their paths converged through Teff-ly, a brand that embodies their shared vision of harnessing the power of Teff.
