This month, we are pleased to introduce Gezahegn Tadesse, artist, founder, and CEO of MEGA Technologies, a creative technology startup using artificial intelligence to build an Ethiopian heritage-sensitive character development universe.
Gezahegn’s journey bridges art and technology. With an artistic background, he has moved beyond traditional creative boundaries to explore how AI can empower creators, preserve cultural identity, and develop stories with global potential.
MEGA Technologies is developing MEGA Toon, an AI-powered creative ecosystem designed to connect authentic Ethiopian storytelling with digital entertainment. The project combines an interactive reading app, a web-based creator publishing platform, and AI-assisted production tools. Its vision is to help creators transform ideas and cultural stories into compelling webcomics, test audience demand, and develop successful characters into education, animation, games, licensing, and merchandise.
The company’s mission responds to a creative opportunity: young Ethiopian and African audiences often have limited access to heroes and characters that reflect their own heritage, while local creators face challenges moving from story creation to scalable markets.
MEGA Technologies recently achieved a milestone by receiving the “Best Innovative AI Project” award, presented by Deputy Prime Minister of the FDRE, Temesgen Tiruneh during the Ethiopian AI Startup Graduation, orgavnized by the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute.
With this recognition, Gezahegn aims to build a globally impactful platform that puts Ethiopian stories, characters, and creators on the international stage while creating new opportunities for the next generation of African creative talent.
