The name of this great café and creative space is “Enitewawek” literally translated means “Let’s get to know each other” and is the ethos and harmony of this charming eco-friendly place. Recently re-established and relocated to Bole in a brand new building but off the main hustle and bustle of Bole Road, this is a place to purposely seek out. The ambience is great and the food is fresh and tasty – the café uses locally sourced produce and has a simple but enticing and wholesome menu. The made from scratch falafel wrap I enjoyed along with some roast potatoes in home-made wraps was delicious as was the strawberry cupcake. I was also tempted by the All-day Breakfast menu with a variety of tempting dishes on offer both Ethiopian and Ferengie. Let’s not forget the Barista coffee and fresh juices (with No added sugar!) and it is important to note that there are no straws or plastic used here – thumbs up to them for supporting the environment this way!
The SUP (Souls United in Power) spacious creative space adjoining the cosy café serves the community with movement and creative classes including yoga and dance for kids and adults – contact them for Krempt programs they are developing for kids.
A native of New Zealand, Kim fell in love with Ethiopia back in 2007 (on a trip with Habitat for Humanity NZ building mud huts in Jimma) and then with Yonas in 2012 with the birth of their son in 2013 and marriage in 2014. After almost 8 years back in New Zealand, where Yonas worked as a Barista, their dream was always to return to Ethiopia to “use our gifts to serve the community” says Kim. The idea of a café and creative space is the perfect combination for the couple to utilise their skills and talents. Kim has a background in dance and fitness and helped her family run their long established Cambodian restaurant in New Zealand. Yonas has a background in hotel management in Addis and as a successful and popular Barista in New Zealand.
In addition to their own skills, they are extremely interested in supporting and empowering local artists and other local enterprises as much as possible – they hire and trained unemployed women, source bakery goods from an independent local baker and work with artists and artisans to help promote their skills or products. This is definitely a place to feel good about visiting not just for the delicious food and drinks!
