Interior Design Trends For 2024

Brown is the color for 2024!

Texture is in, High Gloss walls are out!
White walls are still out this year but rather than seeing the high glossy finishes and reflective materials we will be seeing more texture from materials, texture in our paint, hand tooled plastering and roman clay-like finishes.

Bouclé is our fabric of choice for 2024

Bouclé upholstery is sticking around in 2024. We won’t be seeing it everywhere but accents of bouclé in color will help bring texture, excitement and a level of quiet luxury into the space.

Artisanal Everything is in
Imperfectly perfect is the new thing. Post pandemic, we are seeing a refreshed appreciation for hand crafted, bespoke pieces.

Alternative material will be the new standard

Previously in design, integrity of materials was highly regarded. However, with environmental impact now being a big consideration when selecting and making materials, we will see a shift in manufacturing with alternative materials taking center stage.
In Ethiopia, we have an alternative material manufacturer of our own, Kubik Ethiopia Plastic Manufacturing. Kubik, a recent global start up winner, converts our plastic waste into building blocks to be used for construction. Keep an eye out for their products and ways to incorporate them into our 2024 designs.

Another highly symbolic repatriation involved a lock of hair removed from Prince Alemayu by his
one-time guardian Captain Tristram Speedy. Four descendants of Capt. Speedy travelled from New Zealand to arrange the transfer. “It felt like Prince Alemayu’s lock of hair was a long way from home,” said Leonie Turner speaking of their precious family heirloom. Other items returned at the event included a silver-mounted horn cup bearing the inscription “Taken at Magdala”. Its owners said it was the right time to pass its guardianship back to Ethiopia.

Another returning horn cup had been identified and purchased by Tahir Shah, founder and CEO of the Scheherazade Foundation, at an auction in Canterbury last April. The ceremonial shield gifted by a European collector was once in the possession of a gentleman whose ancestor probably served at Maqdala. “These are not merely objects,” said Ambassador Teferi Melesse. “They are the embodiment of our Church, our culture and our history.” Professor Alula Pankhurst, a member of Ethiopia’s National Heritage Restitution Committee, said that conditions for repatriation of artifacts should be strengthened.
