Danida Green Business Partnerships have funded the project “Bale Wild – Market Development for Organic Wild Certified Forest Coffee”, which has resulted in the first bags of Bale Mountains Wild Coffee now being exported to European markets.
Congratulations to the project partners: Original Food Germany, Original Food Switzerland, Burka Yadot Farmers’ Cooperative Union, Garen Bale Participatory Forest Management Union, and Caritas Switzerland. The project aims to enhance sustainability across the value chain of organically wild-harvested forest coffee, while increasing smallholder farmers’ incomes by connecting them with foreign consumers seeking deforestation-free coffee.
With access to international markets, the involved Ethiopian smallholder farmers now benefit from improved income opportunities and stronger incentives to conserve the unique forest ecosystems of the Bale Mountains. Danida Green Business Partnerships is a challenge fund supporting market-driven green transition and inclusive economic growth in developing countries. The fund prioritises climate action and environmental protection, with at least 80% of its financing dedicated to climate and environmental objectives through market-driven solutions.
