Youga and Connecting to out Inner Child

With the arrival of the 2015 Ethiopian New Year, we have another chance to fulfill our newly made resolutions. We can reflect & introspect on the affirmations broken and kept. It is important to realize that life’s progress is not necessarily a straight line. How do we envision improving our lives? What exactly do we want to embody, hear and see? What do we truly wish for ourselves and our families? Can we be more healthy? What does it mean to be happy?
As children we look at the world as a huge infinite place filled with imagination, endless possibilities and dreams. We play, run, move and stretch naturally. All that changes as hormones take over and we explore our individuality, as we become rebellious teens, we stop believing in magic and fantasies. We find many stories proven to be lies and make-belief. This might cause confusion, disappointment, anger & grief. We can channel what we feel through dance, martial arts, or translate our sentiments through poetry. Practicing yoga may also promote a sense of peace.
As young adults, when we are able to make our own choices, finally. We may intend to do many things differently. We update, upscale and upgrade to modernity. We can keep up with technological advancements and we can do with less sleep. Some may choose to drown themselves in parties, while others preserve and focus their energy. We will learn for ourselves that practice makes perfect consistently.
As responsible parents or elders, more mature and wise, still in the prime of our lives, our perspective shifts to survive & thrive. We climb the societal ladder and aim to provide for our loved ones, either financially or in kind. We realize that the best things come for free, like attention and quality time. Fulfilling our full potential makes us rise.
We all face extreme challenges at some point in life, which are supposed to make us grow. What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. Hulum le bego new! However, it is important to remember who we truly are, our unique mission and purpose, our big dreams and small wishes. When we reconnect to our inner child, we may rediscover what we were conditioned to hide. I recommend you spend 5 minutes in child’s pose to surrender your worries and release the tensions your shoulders hold. We deeply relax in this forward fold. Solitude may help you download divine inspiration and wise words.
When we practice to stay present with our adult understanding, while looking into fears of our childhood programming, a healing process could take place. . . lifting the burden of guilt and shame. When we meditate, we learn to differentiate the sources of all the thoughts, the media influence, external opinions, whispers of our ancestors & our own actual inner voice. In silence you may connect the dots. You may relate to the need for more balance between, the higher & lower self, business, pleasure, relaxation & sports. Yoga breaks blockages and helps set our minds free.
