Sizzling Sichuan Restaurant: The Ethiopian Chef Who Mastered Chinese Cooking

Chef Nebiyu Ermias has quite simply, with a lot of perseverance, mastered the art and skill of Chinese cooking and his food is sizzling; very hot and very exciting!

He is as equally passionate about his cooking as he is about providing customer service to his guests. It is quite usual for him to emerge from his kitchen, where he is very much a hands-on chef, to talk to and mingle with his guests and ensure that everything is right with their order. He offers a menu with items to suit all taste buds.

After learning his craft observing professional chefs at the Old China Bar restaurant at Meskel Square in the 1970s as a boy, he earned his way up the ladder and, after managing a restaurant called Shanghai, he went on to work at the newly opened Sheraton Hotel whilst still continuing to perfect the art of cooking Chinese food for friends and family.

After 4 years at the Sheraton and with some savings, he found a location to open his own restaurant which he called Sichuan (an area in the south west of China renowned for his variety of spices). He has had to move location a few times for one reason or another but his latest move is to Cote D’Ivoire Street, in the British Embassy area.

Chef Nebiyu looks forward to welcoming old customers to his new location and enticing new customers. “We have missed serving you and can’t wait to welcome you back”!
